4 Months on from when i first made this thread and it's got worse, a lot worse, with prices now standing at:

117.9p for unleaded and 134.9p for diesel.

I put £30 in my tank earlier and only got just over 25 litres of fuel. I'm not impressedAngry

Sadly riding a bike is not an option with the amount of things I transport to and from work!  I would consider going on a bus but it would cost the same as my petrol cost and would take three times as long to get there!

Get with the times?

In a time, when a whole continent is overweight, the petrol going more expensive, you can't really say using your muscles every now and then (yes, I know it takes effort to hold down the gas peddal as well) is 1968

Besides, don't you guys watch Top Gear? The bike totally owned the car and the public transportation. Car ended up in last place.

only one thing m8 i live in a little town near Setubal (yes great Mourinho homeland ) and to go from my home to the near beach i have to make almost 14km in a car and i spend near of 3 litres of diesel (my car its an fiat bravo 1.9 td series of 98), i pay in portugal 1,41€ for 1 litre, the total cost of the trip if i go on a car its 8,82€;
now if i go by bus i have to pay 1,60€ until Setubal then i have to take another bus until the near beach and i pay 2,80€, and the total cost of the trip its 8,80€;
LOL i think that its more easier to go by car, coz with this constant climb of the petrol prize i think that even even take the bus its a Rich Men job LOLOL.

And yes Erkki i love bikes too, but, go to the near cinema with our girl in her bike too and see the film with a smelly t'shirt dressed will not be very romantic, LOL, its just an opinion

If your mind it's not alright, then your body will pay!!!

WTHF!!!!!

These prices are getting fCensoredking ridiculous now. I've been driving for under 2 years and the cost has increased by almost 30p a litre in that time. It's scandalous.

I predict a riot in the near future..........

It only seems yesterday when I was filling my BSA Bantam @ 5/9d per gallon (less than 5.9p per litre in real money)Smile

All these electric running cars of the future will be interesting!  The ones I have seen on Tv already are too small, they only seem to seat two people which is no good if you have a family to drive around and the larger ones they are developing will be too expensive for the majority to afford - I can't even afford to buy a brand new petrol car let alone a hybrid electric one!  Plus does it also mean that we would have to pay for the cost of having a charging point added to our own properties and then surely our electric bills would go sky high!  What is the answer????!!!!!

Fill up early morning as station tanks are not fitted with anti expansion stuff so over the day it expands meaning you get less for your money.
Use the pump on slow so it cuts down on vapours going back into the storage tanks.
Never fall below half a tank as this increases the air to fumes ratio.....evaporation

Only buy or fill up your car in the early morning when the ground
temperature is still cold..

Remember that all Service Stations have their storage tanks buried
beneath
the ground. The colder the ground the more dense the fuel. When it
gets
warmer petrol expands, so buying in the afternoon or evening ..........
your
litre is not exactly a litre. In the petroleum business, the specific
gravity and the temperature of the petrol, diesel, jet fuel, ethanol and
other petroleum products play an important role. A one degree rise in
temperature is a big deal in this business but the Service Stations do
not have temperature compensation at the pumps.

When you are filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to a
fast mode.

If you look you will see that the trigger has three (3) stages; low,
middle
and high. In slow mode you should be pumping on low speed, thereby
minimising the vapours that are created while you are pumping. All
hoses
at the pump have a vapour return. If you are pumping on the fast rate,
some of the liquid that goes into your tank becomes vapour. Those
vapours
are being sucked up and back into the underground storage tank so you're
getting less worth for your money.

One of the most important tips is to fill up when your tank is HALF
FULL.

The reason for this is, the more fuel you have in you tank, the less air
occupying its empty space. Petrol evaporates faster than you can
imagine.
Petroleum storage tanks have an internal floating roof. This roof
serves as zero clearance between petrol and the atmosphere, so it
minimises the
evaporation. Unlike Service Stations, here where I work, every truck
that
we load is temperature compensated so that every litre is actually the
exact amount.

Another reminder. If there is a fuel truck pumping into storage tanks
when
you stop to buy, DO NOT FILL UP. Most likely the petrol/diesel is
being
stirred up as the fuel is being delivered and you might pick up some
dirt that normally settles on the bottom.

Hope this will help you get the most value for your money. Remember to
always fill your car when the tank shows 'half'. Always fill up in the
early morning. Always fill up in slow mode.
